Bespoke staircases in Birmingham

Sweeping oak flights, glass balustrades and floating open-tread stairs — designed, hand-built in our Birmingham workshop and installed by our own team.

A staircase is the first thing you see when you walk in, and the one piece of joinery you touch every day. At Hardwood Home we design and build bespoke staircases for homes across Birmingham and the West Midlands — each one made to measure in 100% solid hardwood, never a veneered MDF core.

From a traditional oak flight with turned spindles to a contemporary cantilevered staircase wrapped in frameless glass, every project starts with a free survey of your home and ends with a clean, compliant installation by our own fitters. Every design is drawn to meet Building Regulations Part K, so your finished stairs are as safe as they are striking.

Not after a full rebuild? If your existing stairs are sound we can clad them in solid oak instead — see stair cladding & retreading, from £2,395. Or, fitting it yourself? Our online shop stocks ready-made solid oak stair parts and skirting, delivered UK-wide.

Styles we build

Every kind of staircase, in solid hardwood

Traditional oak staircases

Classic newel posts, turned or square spindles and a solid oak handrail — the timeless look, hand-built to suit period and new-build homes alike.

Oak & glass balustrade staircases

Warm solid timber paired with frameless toughened glass to open up landings and flood stairwells with light. Brushed brass or steel fittings to finish.

Open-tread (open-riser) staircases

Contemporary floating treads with no riser behind, for a light, sculptural feel. Engineered and fixed to stay rigid and Building-Regs compliant.

Cut-string staircases

Treads and risers exposed on a shaped outer string — a refined, joinery-led detail that shows off the craftsmanship in a traditional flight.

Curved & cantilever staircases

Sweeping curved flights and cantilevered “floating” stairs designed as the centrepiece of the home, engineered around your space.

Stair cladding & renovation

Transform a tired existing staircase by over-cladding it in solid hardwood — new treads, risers, handrails and spindles, usually in a few days.

Why Hardwood Home

Staircase FAQs

Bespoke staircases in Birmingham, answered

How much does a bespoke staircase cost in Birmingham?

Cost depends on the design, timber and finish, so every staircase is priced individually. After a free survey at your Birmingham home we provide a fixed written quote covering design, manufacture and installation, with no hidden extras.

Do your staircases meet Building Regulations Part K?

Yes. Every staircase we design and fit meets Building Regulations Part K, including the 100mm sphere gap between spindles, permitted going and rise, minimum headroom and handrail heights. Where accessible access is required we also design to Part M.

Can you replace a staircase without major disruption?

In many cases we can over-clad your existing staircase in solid hardwood rather than rebuilding it — new treads, risers, handrail and spindles fitted over the sound original structure. It is quicker, tidier and usually completed within a few days.

Which timbers do you use for staircases?

We build in 100% solid hardwood — European oak, American walnut, ash and sapele — never veneered MDF cores. Stairs can be left natural, oiled, lacquered, or dyed on the risers and strings for a two-tone finish.

How long does a bespoke staircase take from order to installation?

Typically 4–8 weeks depending on complexity: a free survey and measure, design drawings for your sign-off, hand manufacture in our Birmingham workshop, then installation by our own fitters.
